New Miles Rule - By Rebecca B and Martina V

The miles department in Magnet High School recently issued a new rule concerning miles. In the past, students who have participated in sports programs in their hometown school have been able to use their practices and games towards their mile counts with a signature from their coach or instructor. Now, however, the new rule states that these athletes can only gain 20% of their miles this way. The rest, excluding their at home miles, must be done in school. There are also changes in the amount of miles students receive per practice.

This presents a problem for all students who are required to partake in the miles program. Since there is only one fitness center available after school, it is very difficult to get a machine because of the large amount of students who need them done. Because of the new rule, there is an even larger amount of students present because of the athletes who previously were able to get their miles elsewhere. Also, the students who play sports generally do not have time after school to do miles, as they already spend their time at practices and games.

The miles department recognizes that this may not be the ideal situation for miles. However, they feel that it may be a way to restrict the amount of students who lie about their miles. In response to the complaints of overcrowding, a twenty-five minute limit is instated on days where there are many people who need machines.
